The Ask

Design a mobile app for young adults (18 - 35) who have recently relocated, with the goal of helping them explore their new city, make social connections, and feel more rooted in their surroundings.

1. Craft a user experience that is both deeply personalized and socially driven, while ensuring design consistency across multiple contributors.

2. Balancing useful features that resonated with users in transitional life phases, balancing practicality with emotional excitement and discovery.

The Solution

Locale offers customizable experiences through personalized quizzes and character archetypes, user avatar creation, discovering local events, saving interests, match with new friends, speaking with others in individual chats and group chats, and engaging with weekly challenges to earn badges and awards.

AWARDED HONORABLE MENTION IN THE GRAPHIS 2025 NEW TALENT AWARDS

For a class project, I worked collaboratively with a team of peers to create Locale, a mobile app designed to help young adults adjust to life in a new city. The app supports users by recommending local events, connecting them with nearby individuals who share similar interests, and offering customizable features that reflect their personality and preferences.

The design process was deeply user-centered, beginning with research into relocation experiences and Gen Z/millennial lifestyle behaviors. We then developed core features through user personas, journey mapping, and low-fidelity wireframes.

My role focused on ensuring a cohesive brand identity across the platform. I developed a comprehensive style guide that defined our app’s color palette, typography, iconography, and UI components that helped our team maintain consistency throughout the design process.

I also created the initial lo-fi wireframes that laid the groundwork for the app’s layout and user flow. This project allowed me to showcase my ability to collaborate in a team environment, lead with visual clarity, and contribute to a design system that aligns with both user needs and aesthetic goals.
